Find out why your Instagram feed stopped updating with AI

Check Instagram Feed Pro's connected accounts, token expiry, error flags and refresh schedule in one pass, and fix the cause with your go-ahead.

Difficulty Beginner
Time ~5 min

Prerequisites

A connected site running Smash Balloon Instagram Feed Pro 6.14.0 or newer on WordPress 6.9 or newer. The diagnosis only reads; changing the schedule or getting a reconnect link needs MCP Write Access turned on under Instagram Feed > Settings > General.

The prompt
I use Smash Balloon Instagram Feed Pro and my feed [feed name, or "on the homepage"] has stopped showing new posts. Diagnose it without changing anything. Run list-sources and tell me, for every connected account, its type, token expiry date, whether it has an error, and how many feeds use it; flag any account whose account_type is personal or basic, because Instagram stopped supporting Personal accounts in December 2024 (connect_type can say personal on a working Business account; ignore that field for this check, and treat an expiry of 2037-12-30 as no expiry date). Run list-feeds and get-feed to find which accounts this feed pulls from. Run get-global-settings and tell me how often feeds refresh and at what time. Then give me the most likely cause in one paragraph and the fix you suggest, and wait. If I say go and the fix is reconnecting an account (as a Business or Creator account), run get-connect-url and give me the link to open in my browser; if it is the refresh schedule, change it with update-global-settings to [every hour]. After any change, show me what Instagram Feed reported.

Run the “Find out why your Instagram feed stopped updating with AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.

The Instagram feed on the site keeps showing the same old posts. It could be an expired connection, an account that hit an error, a Personal account that Instagram no longer supports, or a refresh schedule set to once a day at a time nobody remembers choosing. Finding out means opening several settings screens and knowing which one holds which answer.

The AI checks the usual causes in order with Instagram Feed’s read-only abilities. It lists every connected account with its type, token expiry date, error flag and how many feeds use it, and flags any account whose account type is Personal or Basic, since Instagram stopped supporting those in December 2024. A connect type of “personal” on a Business account is normal and not the problem, and an expiry date of 2037-12-30 is Instagram Feed’s placeholder for a connection with no expiry date. It looks up which accounts the stuck feed pulls from and reads the refresh schedule. It never sees an access token; Instagram Feed leaves those out of everything it returns. It changes nothing until you agree to the fix, and if an account needs reconnecting it gives you a one-time link to finish the Instagram login in your own browser.

Paste the prompt with the feed’s name. A diagnosis is safe to run any time. Reconnecting is a browser step you do yourself, and the link expires after 15 minutes. No ability clears the cache on its own. Saving a change to a feed clears that feed’s cache, and Clear All Caches is still a button under Instagram Feed > Settings > Feeds.

Outcome

A plain answer on why the feed is stale (account error, expired or Personal connection, or refresh schedule) and, with your go-ahead, the fix applied.
