Turn On ACF’s AI Abilities with AI

Switch on ACF's Abilities API support with one reviewed snippet, then choose which field groups, post types and taxonomies the AI can reach.

Difficulty Beginner
Time ~5 min

Prerequisites

A site connected to WPVibe running Advanced Custom Fields 6.8 or newer (tested on 6.8.10, the free version) on WordPress 6.9 or newer, with the free WPCode plugin installed.

The prompt
My WordPress site uses Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) 6.8 or newer. Turn on ACF's AI abilities so you can work with my ACF content.

1. Check that WordPress is 6.9 or newer and ACF is 6.8 or newer; if not, stop and tell me. Run discover_abilities with category acf-field-management. If acf/field-groups is there, the feature is on: skip to step 4.
2. Create a WPCode snippet, type PHP, location everywhere, titled "Turn on ACF AI abilities", with exactly this code: add_filter( 'acf/settings/enable_acf_ai', '__return_true' ); If WPCode is not installed, stop and ask me to install the free WPCode plugin first.
3. Give me the link to review and enable the snippet, and wait until I tell you it is on.
4. Run discover_abilities with category acf-field-management and again with category wordpress-content-discovery, and list every acf/ ability you now see. Then tell me how to give you access to [the field groups, post types and taxonomies I want you to work with]: in ACF, open each one, go to its ACF AI tab, switch on Allow AI Access (the label ends with to Field Data, to Post Content or to Taxonomy Terms), and save. A field group also needs Show in REST API switched on in its Group Settings tab.
5. Tell me that the query, create, view, update and delete abilities only appear for post types and taxonomies registered in ACF with AI access on, and that I can turn all of this off by disabling the snippet in WPCode.

Skip pasting the full prompt. Drop this into your AI on a site that already has WPVibe:

Run the “Turn On ACF’s AI Abilities with AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.

ACF 6.8 added abilities that let an AI assistant create post types, taxonomies and field groups, and read and edit the entries in them. They ship switched off. There is no setting for them in wp-admin, only a line of code, and after that every field group, post type and taxonomy has its own Allow AI Access switch.

The AI writes that line as a WPCode snippet, saved switched off, and gives you the link to review and enable it yourself. Once it is on, the AI lists the ACF abilities your site now has and tells you exactly where to switch on AI access for the field groups, post types and taxonomies you want it to work with.

You need the free WPCode plugin installed and active first, and only you can enable the snippet. Allow AI Access decides which items ACF’s abilities cover, and anything you create in ACF from now on starts with it on. It is not a lock: the AI can still reach your content through the WordPress REST API, as on any site connected to WPVibe. To turn ACF’s abilities off, disable the snippet in WPCode.

Outcome

ACF's AI abilities are on, through a snippet you reviewed and enabled, and you know which items the AI can reach.
