Pause a Scheduled Task and Resume It Later with WP Crontrol and AI

Stop one background job without deleting it, check the pause took, and resume it with one sentence.

Difficulty Beginner
Time ~5 min

Prerequisites

A site connected to WPVibe running WP Crontrol 2.0 or newer (tested on 2.0.0, free) on WordPress 6.9 or newer, with an administrator account.

The prompt
My WordPress site uses WP Crontrol. Pause [the job, for example the stock sync or the weekly digest] until I say so.

1. Run discover_abilities with category wp-crontrol. If the ability this needs is not there, stop and tell me to install or update the free WP Crontrol plugin (2.0 or newer, on WordPress 6.9 or newer).
2. Run wp-crontrol/list-events with a search for a word from the job. If several match, show me the hook names and ask which one. If none match, tell me the job is not a WP-Cron event on this site (it may run through Action Scheduler, as WooCommerce's jobs do) and stop. Then run wp-crontrol/get-event with its hook and sig and tell me what it does (its actions), its schedule and when it runs next.
3. Tell me that pausing applies to every event with this hook name (count the events whose hook is exactly this name: the search also matches longer names), that runs which come due while it is paused are skipped and not run later, and that a one-off event that comes due during the pause is used up. Wait for my yes.
4. On my yes, run wp-crontrol/pause-hook with the hook. If it says the hook can't be paused, tell me it is one of WP Crontrol's own PHP or URL cron events, which can't be paused at all (to stop one, edit or delete it on WP Crontrol's Cron Events screen), and stop. If it says there are no scheduled events with this hook name, tell me the job is not scheduled right now, and stop.
5. Run wp-crontrol/list-events with type paused and confirm the job is listed with paused true.
6. Give me the sentence to resume it: Resume the WP Crontrol hook HOOK_NAME with wp-crontrol/resume-hook and show me its next run. Use the real hook name. When I ask you to resume it, run wp-crontrol/resume-hook, then wp-crontrol/list-events with a search for the hook, and tell me when it runs next.

Run the “Pause a Scheduled Task and Resume It Later with WP Crontrol and AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.

Sometimes a background job has to stop for a while: a stock sync hammering a supplier’s API, a digest email you’re rewriting, a cleanup you don’t want running during a migration or a sale. Deleting it loses its schedule, and plugins often recreate it anyway.

The AI finds the job in WP Crontrol, tells you what it does and when it runs next, and pauses it after your yes. The job stays scheduled but does nothing when its time comes. The AI confirms the pause and gives you one sentence to resume it later.

Runs that come due while a job is paused are skipped, not saved up: a one-off job that comes due during the pause is gone. Pausing applies to every event with that hook name, and WP Crontrol’s own PHP and URL cron events can’t be paused this way. It also stops the hook when a plugin fires it outside WP-Cron, for example from its own Sync now button.

Outcome

The job is paused with its schedule kept, and you have the sentence that resumes it.
