Find Failing and Past-Due Subscriptions in Easy Digital Downloads with AI
Get every failing, past-due, and stalled subscription with the amount at stake and the decline reason, sorted by who to contact first.
Prerequisites
A connected site running Easy Digital Downloads 3.7.1 or newer with Recurring Payments 2.14.0 or newer, on WordPress 6.9 or newer. Read only, so AI write access can stay off unless you want notes added.
I run my store on Easy Digital Downloads with Recurring Payments. Use the Easy Digital Downloads and Recurring Payments abilities, read only, to find subscriptions that have stopped paying. Do not change or send anything. Find every subscription with the status failing, past due, or needs attention, and page through the results until you have all of them. For each one, show the customer name and email that come with the subscription, the product, the billing period and amount, the date it was due to renew, and the reason in the subscription's notes if there is one. Sort the list with the most recent failures first, and tell me the total amount per month or year that these subscriptions represent. End with the five customers I should contact first and why. If I later tell you I have contacted someone, add an internal note to that subscription saying so, and nothing else.
Skip pasting the full prompt. Drop this into your AI on a site that already has WPVibe:
Run the “Find Failing and Past-Due Subscriptions in Easy Digital Downloads with AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.
A subscription that fails to renew is revenue that leaves quietly. The card expired or was declined, the gateway gave up after a few retries, and unless someone checks the subscriptions screen, nobody follows up. Most of those customers would happily keep paying if someone told them their card needs updating.
The AI reads it through Recurring Payments' own abilities, read only: every subscription that is failing, past due, or needs attention, with the customer, the amount at stake, when it stopped renewing, and the reason recorded in the subscription's notes. It sorts them by how much each is worth and how recently it failed, so you know who to email first. Nothing is changed and nothing is sent.
Paste the prompt and send the list to whoever handles billing emails. The most recent failures are the easiest to save, so start at the top. If you want a record that you reached out, the AI can add a note to each subscription once you've contacted the customer, as long as AI write access is switched on.
Outcome
You have a sorted list of subscriptions that stopped paying, with contact details, amounts, and decline reasons, and nothing in the store has changed.
