Cookbook Marketing PushEngage

Create a PushEngage Subscriber Segment with AI

Describe who you want to reach and get a PushEngage segment built from the pages they visit, checked against the segments you already have.

Difficulty Beginner
Time ~5 min

Prerequisites

A connected site running PushEngage 4.2.10 or newer on WordPress 6.9 or newer, already connected to your PushEngage account.

The prompt
I use PushEngage on my WordPress site. Create a subscriber segment for this audience: [describe them, for example: people who read my houseplant articles, or people who looked at the pricing page]. Use the PushEngage abilities and the WordPress REST API. First check the connection status, and stop if the site is not connected. List my existing segments and tell me if one already covers this audience, in which case do not create another. Then look up the real URLs on my site for the content I described, such as the category address, so the rule matches my actual URL structure. Propose a segment name and the include and exclude rules, using starts with, exact, or contains. Show me three real pages the rule would match and one similar page it would not, so I can see it is neither too wide nor too narrow. Wait for my approval. Create the segment with adding subscribers on page load switched on, because a URL rule only fills when that is on. Afterwards, list the segments again and show me the new one with its ID, its rules, and its subscriber count. Tell me plainly that it starts at zero and fills as subscribers visit those pages from now on, and that it does not sort my existing subscribers.

Run the “Create a PushEngage Subscriber Segment with AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.

Sending every notification to everyone is how a push list dies. The reader who came for recipes does not want your plugin changelog. Segments fix that, and the most useful kind is the simplest: people who visited a certain part of your site. Setting one up means knowing your own URL structure well enough to write a rule that matches the right pages and only those, which is why most lists never get past All Subscribers.

You describe the audience in plain English and the AI works out the rule. It looks up your real category and page addresses so the pattern matches how your site is actually built, shows you the rule with examples of pages it would and would not catch, and creates the segment through PushEngage’s abilities once you agree. It lists your existing segments first, so you do not end up with three versions of the same one.

Paste the prompt with the audience you want. One thing to understand before you rely on it: a segment based on page visits fills as subscribers visit those pages from now on. It does not reach back and sort the subscribers you already have, so a new segment starts at zero and grows. The prompt asks the AI to switch on adding subscribers on page load for this kind of segment, since without that a URL rule has nothing to act on. Check the count again in a week.

Outcome

A new segment exists in PushEngage with the URL rules you approved, confirmed by listing your segments afterwards.
