Create a Launch Coupon in MemberPress with AI

Describe the offer and get a MemberPress coupon created with the right discount, memberships, usage limit, and expiry, plus a price table showing what members will actually pay.

Difficulty Beginner
Time ~5 min

Prerequisites

A connected site running MemberPress with the Developer Tools add-on active and at least one membership.

The prompt
I use MemberPress on my WordPress site. Create a coupon with the code [CODE] for [20% off, or $10 off] on [every payment, or only the first payment] for [membership names, or all memberships], limited to [number] uses, expiring [date]. First list my existing coupons with the MemberPress abilities to make sure the code isn't taken, then show me the settings you will use and wait for my OK. Create the coupon through the MemberPress Developer Tools REST API (mp/v1/coupons) with valid_memberships, usage_amount, should_expire, and expires_on. For a discount on every payment, set discount_mode to standard and put the offer in discount_type and discount_amount. For a first-payment-only discount, send all of these fields explicitly: discount_mode set to first-payment, first_payment_discount_type and first_payment_discount_amount set to the offer, and discount_amount set to 0 so renewals are charged full price. Do not put the offer in discount_amount for a first-payment-only coupon, because MemberPress applies that field to every renewal. Afterwards, read the coupon back and confirm the saved amounts: for a first-payment-only coupon, first_payment_discount_amount must be the offer and discount_amount must be 0. If either is wrong, fix the coupon and read it back again before going on. Then show me a table with each membership's normal price and what a new member pays with the code, first payment and renewals, so I can check the math, and tell me if the first-payment discount replaces a free trial on any membership.

Run the “Create a Launch Coupon in MemberPress with AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.

A launch, a webinar, or a partner promotion needs a coupon, and MemberPress coupons have more settings than most people remember: percent or fixed amount, every payment or just the first, which memberships, how many uses, and when it expires. Get one wrong and the coupon either gives away every renewal or takes nothing off at all.

You describe the offer in a sentence and the AI checks your existing coupons so the code is not already taken. It shows you the settings it will use and waits for your OK, then creates the coupon through MemberPress's API. For a first-payment-only offer, it puts the discount in MemberPress's first-payment fields and sets the regular discount to zero, so renewals are charged full price, then reads the coupon back to confirm both amounts. Then it works out what a new member pays on each membership with the code, next to the normal price.

Paste the prompt with your code and your offer. Check the price table the AI gives you before you share the code, and try it once on the registration page. Set an expiry date and a usage limit for anything you post publicly.

Outcome

A MemberPress coupon exists with the right discount, memberships, usage limit, and expiry, and you have a table of what members pay with it.
