Answer Subscription Charge Questions in Easy Digital Downloads with AI
Give the AI a customer's email and get every subscription charge, the next renewal date, and a plain answer to send back.
Prerequisites
A connected site running Easy Digital Downloads 3.7.1 or newer with Recurring Payments 2.14.0 or newer, on WordPress 6.9 or newer. Switch on AI write access under Downloads, Tools, AI for the note at the end. The lookups work without it.
I run my store on Easy Digital Downloads with Recurring Payments. A customer is asking why they were charged. Their email is [customer email]. Use the Easy Digital Downloads and Recurring Payments abilities, and do the read-only lookups first. Find the customer and list their subscriptions with product, status, billing period, amount, and next renewal date. If there is more than one, ask me which one the ticket is about. For that subscription, list every charge with its date and amount, the total billed so far, and any notes already on it. Then write me a short, friendly reply I can send that explains what the charge was, when they signed up, and when the next renewal is due. Do not change anything yet. If the charges do not match what the customer describes, say so instead of guessing. When I say go ahead, add an internal note to the subscription saying the customer asked about the charge today and what we told them. Do not cancel, refund, or change the subscription.
Skip pasting the full prompt. Drop this into your AI on a site that already has WPVibe:

"Why was I charged?" is the subscription ticket every recurring store gets, usually from someone who forgot they signed up for a monthly plan. Answering it means finding the customer, opening the subscription, checking every renewal and its date, and working out when the next one is due. The answer is simple once you have it, but getting it is a tour of the admin.
You give the AI the customer's email and it does the lookup through Recurring Payments' own abilities: the customer, their subscriptions, every charge with its date and amount, the notes already on the subscription, and when the next renewal is due. It writes you a plain-English answer you can send, and only on your word adds an internal note so the next person can see the question was handled. It will not cancel, refund, or change the subscription.
Paste the prompt with the customer's email. If they want to cancel, the AI tells you where to do it in the admin, since Recurring Payments keeps cancellations and refunds there on purpose. If the charges don't match what the customer describes, it says so instead of guessing, so you can check the payment gateway.
Outcome
You know every charge on the subscription and when the next one is due, you have a reply ready to send, and the subscription carries a note saying the question was handled.
