Find Out Why a Page Is Missing from Your Rank Math Sitemap with AI

Check one page against every rule Rank Math uses to leave pages out of the sitemap, and get the one fix.

Difficulty Beginner
Time ~5 min

Prerequisites

A site connected to WPVibe running Rank Math SEO 1.0.279 or newer (tested on 1.0.280, the free version) on WordPress 6.9 or newer.

The prompt
My WordPress site uses Rank Math SEO. The page at [page URL] is missing from my sitemap. Find out why without changing anything.

1. Run rank-math/get-sitemap-status. If the sitemap is off, stop and tell me.
2. Find the page's ID, post type and status. Note if it is not published or is password protected. If it is the posts page set under Settings, Reading, look for it at the top of post-sitemap.xml instead of the page sitemap.
3. Fetch every sitemap file the status result lists for its post type and check whether the page's URL is in any of them.
4. Run rank-math/get-settings and check the sitemap section (whether its post type is included and whether its ID is in exclude_posts) and the titles section (pt_[type]_custom_robots, pt_[type]_robots and robots_global), so you know whether a noindex comes from the page, its post type or the whole site.
5. Run rank-math/get-post-seo-meta for the page and check whether its robots include noindex and whether its canonical differs from its permalink in any character, including a trailing slash or http and https.
6. Tell me which rule applies, the single change that would put the page back, and where to make it in wp-admin. If none applies, tell me Rank Math is most likely serving a cached sitemap and that I can rebuild it by opening the Pages list (Posts for a post), hovering the page, and clicking Quick Edit, then Update. If that does not bring it back, tell me another plugin or a page cache is the next thing to check.

Run the “Find Out Why a Page Is Missing from Your Rank Math Sitemap with AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.

You publish a page, submit your sitemap, and weeks later the page is still not in it. Rank Math can leave a page out for several reasons spread across different screens: the sitemap module, the post type setting, an exclusion list, the page’s own robots setting, a canonical URL that points elsewhere, its status, or a password. Your blog page is listed too, just in the post sitemap rather than the page sitemap. Checking each one by hand means visiting most of them.

The AI reads your live sitemap and Rank Math’s sitemap and robots settings, then checks the page against each rule Rank Math uses to leave something out. It tells you which one applies and the single change that would put the page back, and it changes nothing.

Run it on any page you expected in search and cannot find. If every rule passes and the page is still missing, Rank Math is most likely serving a cached sitemap from before the change; Quick Edit on the page in the Pages list, then Update, rebuilds it. If that does not bring it back, another plugin or a page cache in front of the sitemap is next. A page set to noindex is left out on purpose, so check that the setting was not deliberate before you change it.

Outcome

The reason a page is missing from your Rank Math sitemap and the one change that fixes it, with nothing changed.
