Fix License Activation Limit Tickets in Easy Digital Downloads with AI

Give the AI a customer's email or license key and see every site the license is on, then free a slot or raise the limit on your word.

Difficulty Beginner
Time ~5 min

Prerequisites

A connected site running Easy Digital Downloads 3.7.1 or newer with Software Licensing 3.9.8 or newer, on WordPress 6.9 or newer, with AI write access switched on under Downloads, Tools, AI for the change at the end. The lookups work without it.

The prompt
I run my store on Easy Digital Downloads with Software Licensing. A customer says their license will not activate because it has reached its activation limit. Here is their email or license key: [customer email or license key]. Use the Easy Digital Downloads and Software Licensing abilities, and do the read-only lookups first. Find the license. If you start from an email and the customer has more than one license, list them with product, status, expiration, and activations used, and ask me which one the ticket is about. For that license, show me its status, expiration date, activation count and limit, and every site it is activated on with the date each site was activated and last checked in. If the license is expired or disabled, stop and tell me that is the real problem. Otherwise tell me which site looks stale and why, and suggest one fix: deactivate that site, or raise the limit by one. Do not change anything yet. When I say go ahead, make only the change I approve, then read the activations again and show me the new count and limit. If you raised the limit, tell me the product's default limit so I can reset it later.

Run the “Fix License Activation Limit Tickets in Easy Digital Downloads with AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.

After "where is my download," the email a software store gets most is "my license says it has reached its limit." Usually the customer moved hosts, rebuilt a staging site, or retired an old domain, and the old activation is still holding the slot. Sorting it out means finding the customer, finding the license, opening its activations, and working out which site is stale.

You give the AI the customer's email or license key and it does the lookup through Software Licensing's own abilities: the license, its status and expiration, and every site it is active on with the date each one last checked in. It tells you which activation looks stale and why, and only on your word deactivates that one site or raises the limit for this license. It will not disable the license or touch the order.

Paste the prompt with the email or key. Deactivating a site only frees the slot, and the customer can activate that site again with the same key. If you raise the limit instead, the AI tells you the product's default so you can put it back later. If the license has expired or been disabled, the limit is not the real problem, and the AI will say so instead of changing anything.

Outcome

You know which sites the license is on and why it hit its limit, one stale site has been freed or the limit raised on your word, and the new count is confirmed.
