Noindex Thank-You and Utility Pages in Yoast SEO with AI
Find the thank-you, confirmation, and login pages that should never appear in search, and set them to noindex through Yoast SEO.
Prerequisites
A connected site running Yoast SEO 28.6 or newer (the free version works) on WordPress 6.9 or newer. Yoast only offers these abilities on a production site (WordPress environment type production, the default); a staging or local copy set to another environment type shows none.
I use Yoast SEO on my WordPress site. Find the pages that should not appear in search results and set them to noindex. List all my published pages with the REST API. Pick out the ones that look like utility pages from their title or URL: thank you, confirmation, order received, cart, checkout, my account, login, register, password reset, unsubscribe, and download delivery pages. For each candidate, read its Yoast data with the yoast-seo/get-post-seo-data ability by post ID, since its title search only covers posts, so you know whether it is already noindex. Show me a table with page, URL, why you picked it, and its current noindex value. Do not include my homepage, blog, product, service, about, or contact pages, and if you are unsure about a page, list it separately as a question. Wait for my approval and change only the pages I approve. For each one, run yoast-seo/update-post-seo-data with the post ID and noindex set to true, and send no other fields. Afterwards, fetch the live URL of the first page and confirm the robots meta tag contains noindex. If the page still shows the old value, purge the page cache or add a query string to the URL, and do not rewrite anything. Give me the final list so I can undo any of them later by setting noindex back to null, and remind me that search engines drop a page on their next crawl, not immediately.
Skip pasting the full prompt. Drop this into your AI on a site that already has WPVibe:
Run the “Noindex Thank-You and Utility Pages in Yoast SEO with AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.
Search your own site’s name plus “thank you” and see what comes up. Order confirmations, newsletter signup pages, download links meant only for people who filled in a form. They were never meant to be found, and they are in the index because nobody told Yoast to keep them out. Some of them give away the thing the form was supposed to collect an email for.
The AI lists your pages and picks out the ones that look like utility pages by title and address: thank you, confirmation, cart, checkout, account, login, unsubscribe. It reads each one’s current Yoast robots setting, shows you the list with a reason for each, and sets noindex through Yoast’s own ability only on the ones you approve. Then it fetches a live page and confirms the robots tag says noindex, so you know it took.
Paste the prompt as it is, and read the list before you approve it: noindex on the wrong page removes it from search, so strike anything you want found. Each change is reversible, since setting a page back to the default brings it back, and the AI gives you the final list for that. Google drops a page the next time it crawls it, which can take days or weeks. A page that holds something private needs a login, not a noindex tag.
Outcome
Your utility pages carry a noindex tag you have seen in the page source, and every page that should rank is untouched.
