Send an automatic reply from your Fluent Forms form with AI

Everyone who fills in your form gets a reply at once, with their name and what they asked about.

Difficulty Beginner
Time ~5 min

Prerequisites

A site connected to WPVibe with the free Fluent Forms plugin (tested on 6.2.15), a form with an email field, and an administrator account.

The prompt
My site uses the free Fluent Forms plugin. Add an automatic reply to my form [form name] that goes to the person who filled it in. It should thank them by name, repeat [what they asked about, e.g. the tour they picked], and say [when we reply, e.g. within one working day]. Replies to it should come to [my email address].

Never pass the fields parameter on a /fluentform/v1 route: Fluent Forms answers with an object that WordPress can't trim, and the site returns a critical error. Raise max_length instead.

1. Find the form with rest_api GET /fluentform/v1/forms?per_page=100 (ask me if more than one matches), then GET /fluentform/v1/forms/ID with max_length 80000 and read form_fields (a JSON string). Note each field's element, attributes.name and settings.label, and look inside layout fields too: a container holds columns[].fields, and multi-step forms split fields between form_step elements. Find the email field (element input_email); if there is none anywhere, stop and tell me. If there is a name field (element input_name), its first name is {inputs.FIELD_NAME.first_name}; any other answer is {inputs.FIELD_NAME}. Apart from the first name, repeat only answers the visitor picked (dropdown, radio, checkbox, date or number fields), never other typed text and not {all_data}: this email goes to whatever address the visitor typed, so typed text would let a bot send its own words from your site.
2. Read the form's emails with GET /fluentform/v1/settings/FORM_ID?meta_key=notifications. If one already goes to a form field (sendTo.type field), show it to me and ask whether to change that one instead. Check the form is protected from bots, because a bot that fills it in gets the reply at whatever address it typed. Read GET /fluentform/v1/global-settings?key[0]=_fluentform_global_form_settings&key[1]=_fluentform_turnstile_keys_status&key[2]=_fluentform_reCaptcha_keys_status&key[3]=_fluentform_hCaptcha_keys_status and run_wp_cli plugin list --status=active. Count the form as protected only if one holds: its form_fields has a recaptcha, hcaptcha or turnstile field; misc.autoload_captcha is on and the keys status for misc.captcha_type is true; misc.honeypotStatus is "yes"; misc.akismet_status is "yes" and misc.akismet_validation is "mark_as_spam_and_skip_processing" (in Akismet's default mode a caught entry still gets the reply); or the CleanTalk plugin is active. If none holds, tell me before going on and suggest switching on Fluent Forms' honeypot in its global settings.
3. Draft the subject and the message (short HTML paragraphs, my wording, the smartcodes from step 1). Show me exactly what a person will get, with the smartcodes filled in from an example, and wait for my yes.
4. On my yes: rest_api_write POST /fluentform/v1/settings/FORM_ID with {"meta_key": "notifications", "value": "VALUE_AS_JSON"}, where the value has name "Auto-reply to visitor", sendTo {"type": "field", "email": "", "field": "EMAIL_FIELD_NAME", "routing": []}, fromName "[my site or business name]", fromEmail "", replyTo "[my email address]", bcc "", subject, message (no typed answers other than the first name), conditionals {"status": false, "type": "all", "conditions": [{"field": "", "operator": "=", "value": ""}]}, enabled true and email_template "".
5. Read the form's emails back with the GET from step 2 and confirm the new one is on. Ask me to fill in the form myself with my own email address and check my inbox and spam folder, then check GET /fluentform/v1/logs?form_id=ID&component[]=EmailNotification&per_page=10 shows "Email sending initiated" to my address and no failed line. Tell me how to switch it off: the same POST with "meta_id": EMAIL_ID and the same value with enabled false.

Run the “Send an automatic reply from your Fluent Forms form with AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.

Someone fills in your form and hears nothing. They don’t know if it worked, so they send it again, or they ask a competitor. A short reply that arrives at once, with their name and what they asked about, tells them it worked and when you will answer. Fluent Forms can send one, but it is buried in each form’s email settings with smartcodes to look up.

Ask your AI assistant and it reads your form to find the email field and the choices worth repeating (of what visitors type, only the first name, so a bot can’t use the reply to send its own words), checks the form has spam protection, drafts the reply, and shows you the exact subject and text before saving anything. On your yes it adds the reply to that form through Fluent Forms’ own settings, with replies going to an address you choose, and reads it back.

Say which form and what the reply should promise. It starts with the next entry, so send yourself one to see it. If your site has no mailer plugin, replies to visitors are the emails most likely to land in spam; fix that first with the Fluent Forms email recipe.

Outcome

The form sends each person who fills it in a reply with their name and their answers, and replies come back to the address you chose.
