Send a Test Email and Fix What Stops It with GoSMTP and AI
A test email through GoSMTP, the result in plain words, and the one setting to change.
Prerequisites
A site connected to WPVibe running GoSMTP 1.2.1 or newer (tested on 1.2.4, free) on WordPress 6.9 or newer, with an administrator account, and Enable AI Abilities switched on under GoSMTP > AI Abilities.
My WordPress site uses GoSMTP. Check that my site can send email, and if it can't, tell me why. Don't change any settings. 1. Run discover_abilities with category gosmtp-test. If gosmtp-test/send-mail is not there, run rest_api GET /wp/v2/plugins with search gosmtp. If GoSMTP is active and its version is 1.2.1 or newer, tell me its AI abilities are off until I tick Enable AI Abilities in the Enable Abilities box under GoSMTP > AI Abilities in wp-admin (the MCP Adapter and Application Password steps on that page are not needed for WPVibe; if it is already ticked, the site needs WordPress 6.9 or newer), and stop. If it is installed but not active, tell me to activate it (updating it first if it is older than 1.2.1) and then tick Enable AI Abilities under GoSMTP > AI Abilities, and stop. If it is not installed or is older than 1.2.1, tell me to install or update the free GoSMTP plugin (1.2.1 or newer, on WordPress 6.9 or newer), and stop. Never read the gosmtp_options option directly: it holds the mail passwords and API keys. 2. Run gosmtp-mailer/list. If mailers is empty, tell me no mailer has been saved in GoSMTP yet, so GoSMTP is not handling email: WordPress still sends it the default way, through the web host's own mail server (GoSMTP's Settings screen shows Mail selected even though nothing is saved), and GoSMTP's test can't run until a mailer is saved. I should open GoSMTP > Settings, pick my email provider (or Other SMTP), fill it in and save. Then stop. Otherwise tell me which mailer the primary connection uses, in plain words (sendinblue is Brevo, smtp is Other SMTP). If it is mail, that is the Mail option on GoSMTP's Settings screen (PHP mail): it hands email to the web host's own mail server, which many hosts limit or which often lands in spam, so a mail provider is usually more reliable. If it is gmail, outlook, zoho, amazonses, elasticemail, smtp2go, resend or mailersend, run rest_api GET /wp/v2/plugins with search gosmtp. If GoSMTP Pro is not active, tell me that mailer needs GoSMTP Pro, so GoSMTP is not handling email and WordPress sends it through the web host's mail server instead, so treat it as Mail in the steps below: the fix is to reactivate GoSMTP Pro or pick another mailer on GoSMTP > Settings. 3. Run gosmtp-settings/get and tell me the From Email and From Name it has, and whether Force From Email and Force From Name are on. 4. Ask me which address to send the test to: one I can check now. Then run gosmtp-test/send-mail once with to set to that address and subject GoSMTP test from WPVibe. If the call itself fails instead of returning sent, quote its error. If it says a valid recipient is required, ask me for the address again; otherwise stop. 5. If sent is false, explain the error in plain words and what to change on GoSMTP > Settings: GoSMTP is not configured yet means no mailer is saved; Could not connect to SMTP host with Name or service not known means the SMTP host name is wrong; Could not connect with Connection refused or a timeout means the port or encryption is wrong (587 with TLS or 465 with SSL), or the web host blocks outgoing mail ports, which only the host can open; Could not authenticate means the username or password was refused (for Gmail over SMTP, an app password, not the normal password), or encryption is set to None on port 587 (GoSMTP does not switch to TLS on its own); Unable to send the test email. Check your mailer configuration. means my email provider (Brevo, Mailgun, SendGrid and the like) refused it and GoSMTP did not pass on why: check the API key first (a wrong key leaves nothing in the provider's log), then that the From Email or its domain is verified with that provider, whose activity log shows other refusals; any other message, quote it and say which part of the settings it points to. Do not send again until I say I have changed something. 6. If sent is true, tell me that only means GoSMTP handed the email to the mailer, not that it arrived. Ask me to check my inbox and spam folder, and what the From line shows. If it never arrives or lands in spam and the mailer is Mail, tell me a mail provider is the fix. If it arrives from WordPress (wordpress@ and my domain) instead of my address, tell me the From settings only apply with Force ticked (the From recipe covers it). If the mailer is a provider or Other SMTP and the email never arrives or lands in spam, tell me to check that provider's activity or sending log for this email (delivered, bounced or blocked), and that landing in spam usually means my domain's SPF and DKIM records are not set up for that provider. 7. Finish with one line: works, or the one thing to change first.
Skip pasting the full prompt. Drop this into your AI on a site that already has WPVibe:
Run the “Send a Test Email and Fix What Stops It with GoSMTP and AI” recipe from the WPVibe cookbook on my connected site.
Password resets that never arrive, order emails customers swear they never got, a contact form that goes quiet. WordPress email fails without telling anyone, and the error, when there is one, is SMTP jargon.
The AI reads how GoSMTP is set up, sends a test email to an address you choose and turns the result into plain words: the server name is wrong, the port is blocked, the password was refused, or the email left the site and the problem is further along. It tells you which setting on GoSMTP’s Settings screen to change, and changes nothing itself.
A test that says sent only means GoSMTP handed the email to your mailer, not that it reached the inbox, so the AI asks you to check your inbox and spam folder too. If it lands but comes from WordPress instead of your own address, use this recipe. If only your form’s emails go missing, start with this one.
Outcome
You know whether your site can send email, and if not, why and what to change in GoSMTP.
