What your AI can do with Yoast SEO

One connection gives your assistant structured, permission-checked access to the whole site.

SEO titles and descriptions

Find every post with no custom SEO title, meta description, or focus keyphrase, and get them written from the post itself, a batch at a time.

SEO and readability scores

Yoast's SEO and readability scores for your recent posts in one list, worst first, with the changes most likely to help.

Noindex

Keep thank-you, confirmation, and login pages out of search results, checked against the live robots tag.

Focus keyphrase overlaps

Find posts competing for the same focus keyphrase and move them onto distinct ones, with your approval on each.

Cornerstone content

Pick cornerstones from the posts your site already links to most, mark them, and see which related posts should link to them.

Canonical and schema

Set a custom canonical URL or the Schema.org page and article type on a post, and clear them again.

Things to ask

Paste any of these into Claude or ChatGPT once Yoast SEO is connected.

“Which of my posts have no meta description in Yoast? Write one for the first 10 and show me before saving.”
“Show me my weakest posts by Yoast SEO and readability score, and what to change in the worst five.”
“Find my thank-you and confirmation pages and set them to noindex in Yoast once I approve the list.”
“Which of my posts share the same Yoast focus keyphrase? Suggest a distinct one for each and wait for my go.”

Every Yoast SEO ability

Yoast SEO registers these with the WordPress Abilities API under the yoast-seo namespace. Your AI finds them with discover_abilities and calls them with run_ability. WPVibe asks for your approval only when an ability is marked destructive and deletes something or runs code; everything else runs as soon as your AI calls it. Verified means we ran it on a live install of v28.6. Registered means a fresh install of v28.5 ships it and we have not run it yet.

Requires Yoast SEO 28.6 or newer on WordPress 6.9 or newer, on a production site: staging or local copies set to another environment type show none of these abilities. The free version covers everything on this page. The inclusive language scores ability appears only when inclusive language analysis is switched on in Yoast's settings.

What we learned testing it

Behavior the ability descriptions do not mention.

  • Yoast only offers these abilities on a production site, meaning WordPress environment type production, which is the default. A staging or local copy set to another environment type shows none.
  • The update ability covers robots settings, canonical, cornerstone, and schema type, but not the SEO title, meta description, focus keyphrase, or social text. WPVibe writes those to Yoast's own post fields instead, and they show on the next page load.
  • Yoast calculates SEO, readability, and inclusive language scores in the editor when a post is saved. A post changed any other way keeps its old score until someone opens it and clicks Update, and a post that was never analyzed reports not available.
  • The score abilities cover published, indexed blog posts only, up to the 100 most recently modified. Pages, drafts, and posts set to noindex are left out; get-post-seo-data reads them by ID or URL.
  • Everything is read from Yoast's indexables. On a site where Yoast was just installed, the score lists come back empty until posts are saved or the SEO data optimization under Yoast SEO, Tools has run.
  • The inclusive language scores ability only exists while inclusive language analysis is switched on in Yoast's settings, which it is not by default.
  • Setting noindex also drops the canonical tag from that page. Setting noindex back to null returns the page to the default for its post type.
  • Updating SEO data is a write that is not marked destructive, so WPVibe runs it without an approval prompt. Ask the AI to show you the list and wait for your go before it changes anything.

Verified, and kept that way

Works with AI is WPVibe’s verification program. Every ability marked verified was run on a live Yoast SEO install, and we rescan WordPress.org weekly so a release that adds or removes abilities shows up here before it surprises you.
