What your AI can do with Disable Comments

One connection gives your assistant structured, permission-checked access to the whole site.

Comments off

Comments switched off everywhere or only where you choose, with the previous setting kept for undo.

Reviews kept

On a WooCommerce store, product reviews left on unless you say they should go.

Old comments cleared

Comments on the content types you name counted, then deleted after your yes and your approval, order notes untouched.

Why it is closed

The one setting that opens or closes comments on a post, found without changing anything.

Things to ask

Paste any of these into Claude or ChatGPT once Disable Comments is connected.

“Turn off comments on my pages and media with Disable Comments, and show me the plan first.”
“Turn off comments everywhere on my store but keep product reviews.”
“Count the old comments on my posts and pages, and delete them only after I say yes.”
“Why can't visitors comment on [post title]? Don't change anything.”

Every Disable Comments ability

Disable Comments registers these with the WordPress Abilities API under the disable-comments namespace. Your AI finds them with discover_abilities and calls them with run_ability; only abilities marked destructive ask for your approval before they run. Verified means we ran it on a live install of v2.9.0. Registered means a fresh install of v2.9.0 ships it and we have not run it yet.

Requires Disable Comments 2.9 or newer (tested on 2.9.0, free) on WordPress 6.9 or newer. Its abilities register on their own, with no setting to turn on.

Ability What it does Access Status

Get comment status

disable-comments/get-status
Reports where comments are off, by content type, plus product reviews, role exemptions, rules and auto-close. Read Verified

Set comment status

disable-comments/set-status
Turns comments off everywhere, on the content types you list, or back on, and returns the previous setting for undo. Write Verified

What we learned testing it

Behavior the ability descriptions do not mention.

  • Delete "everywhere" deletes every row in the comments table, not just comments. On a WooCommerce store that includes order notes: on our test store it deleted all 200. Delete by content type or spam instead; order notes are not attached to a content type it lists.
  • Turning comments off "everywhere" also turns off WooCommerce product reviews and blocks the comments REST API, for you and your AI too unless your role is exempt, which also stops the block editor's notes unless Disable Comments' allowlist keeps them. Listing every content type except products keeps reviews working.
  • Turning comments off hides existing comments, unless Disable Comments is set to show them; it does not delete them. They come back if comments are turned on again.
  • set-status needs confirm set to true, and its post type list replaces the current one rather than adding to it. The result returns the previous mode and post types, which is everything needed to undo the change.
  • delete-comments is marked destructive, so WPVibe asks for your approval in the browser before it runs, the dry-run count included, unless you turned approvals off for the site or approved it for the session (which then covers the real delete too). We ran it directly on our test site.
  • A delete by content type also removes spam, pingbacks, comments on trashed items, block editor notes and anything another plugin stores as comments on that type, unless Disable Comments' allowlist keeps them. Deletion is permanent, with no trash: take a backup first.
  • Role exemptions and rules by category, template or age are set only in Disable Comments' settings; the abilities report them but do not change them, and set-status leaves them as they are.
  • On a multisite network where Disable Comments is managed from the network admin, set-status refuses to change anything; delete-comments still deletes, on the current site only. With Site Wise settings on, both work but need a super admin. The recipes stop on any network.

Verified, and kept that way

Works with AI is WPVibe’s verification program. Every ability marked verified was run on a live Disable Comments install, and we rescan WordPress.org weekly so a release that adds or removes abilities shows up here before it surprises you.
